Methodology / Background
Our heart belongs to the impassioned spirit of entrepreneurship in a medium-sized business setting. We have the need to remain open to what at first may seem to be unusual criteria. We stand for insistent and consistent communication, whether in the form of architecture, a brand or a product. INSTANTCONCEPT develops systems for communication that convey messages through image, text and form.
 
To this end, INSTANTCONCEPT has grown to become an interdisciplinary design enterprise. Our team comprises open-minded specialists from the fields of communication design, architecture, product design, communication sciences and IT and has developed a working structure in which the individual disciplines are not arranged as usual alongside one another according to the parallel content they are dealing with, but rather work hand-in-hand on each project, taking an interdisciplinary approach. This working method enormously increases the scope of criteria that can be taken into account, opening up new ways of seeing things and incorporating oft-neglected marginal areas, causally translating these into much more deep-reaching results during each project phase.

We pursue this idea even further, which perhaps can be traced most readily to Bauhaus thinking, and expand interdisciplinarity to encompass responsibility for designing our own brands and undertaking our own projects in the fields of lifestyle and furniture. Our expertise and knowledge already brought us into close contact with the international furniture industry the year INSTANTCONCEPT was founded, 2002, prompting us to supplement our portfolio with the service areas of project management, consulting, engineering and product communication. We have been active on the Chinese market since 2004, initially in product design, and then quickly expanding our offerings to cover the entire service portfolio, including prototyping, POS, shop design and the development of a new international brand.

Today, INSTANTCONCEPT assists clients in the areas of branding, communication, product design and
architecture, going well beyond the traditional definition of a design agency.

Architecture Product Penthouse for an Art Collector
JobA high-rise bunker of high architectural value is a rarity. And the location in the centre of Berlin: a history-steeped provenance. Due to the inevitable vicissitudes of its use, this building remained at the focus of public interest and thus caught the attention of a collector of contemporary art. 3,000 square metres of usable bunker space offered an unparalleled scenographic backdrop for the private presentation of art, while 1,000 square metres of roof space laid the foundation for an uncompromisingly prestigious spatial programme designed to reflect the individual tastes of the resident of this private penthouse.
ResultFor almost eight months, INSTANTCONCEPT worked on planning and designing a unique holistic setting, down to the last door handle, to the smallest detail. INSTANTCONCEPT comprehended and interpreted the task as a total interior design concept with respect to the history of the structure and the new context and features arising from the change in use, and on this basis developed an unmistakable, monumental material aesthetic. Implementation and realisation by our partner Berghäuser und Sohn.

JobThe Japanese corporate group TOTO is a worldwide active bathroom specialist. TOTO is looking to find a way into the German bathroom market for the first time. A furniture design superlative for the exclusive Neorest bath range is required for the market entry and in the course of TOTO's participation at the leading trade fair ISH in Frankfurt. Only the furniture features that have not yet been shown to the market are to be displayed. The “big bang” similar TOTO trade fair show, reduced the planned time window down to just 1 ½  months for development and manufacturing into a fully functional series.
ResultINSTANTCONCEPT proves to be an efficient partner, takes on TOTO´s challenging work and graduates brilliantly, undertaking complete responsibility until the furniture range is displayed at the trade fair, in the shortest of times, showing all the characteristics of a successful brand transfer, starting with a colour aesthetic in jet black, high gloss, polished exterior surfaces in association with a very valuable honey gold shade which was specially developed for the range. All solid oak interior parts are presented in this colour. Japanese reduced language of form, according to traditional design and finishing methods, incorporating hidden high-tech features such as sensor-activated, motorised draws and splendid light effects using homogenous self-illuminating materiality in only 26 mm thickness.

JobOne of China’s major lifestyle brands, which operates a chain of retail stores with its own production sites and almost 350 stores in central urban locations, wants to renew its tradition-steeped brand in view of rapidly developing demand on the part of the burgeoning Chinese middle class. The product area of high-quality home accessories is to be developed further and expanded, and a strategic entry planned into the field of domestic furnishings.
ResultINSTANTCONCEPT undertook wide-ranging analyses and research in order to create the completely new product world our client desired: an East-meets-West design. A brand-compatible product identity was required for the dynamic field addressed today by a traditional manufacturer. Products that relate to Chinese iconography while incorporating a Western-style abstract, reduced formal vocabulary.
